Recording tips (jpg 19.04.2012)
Here are some recording tips if you want to make a good quality recording:
Room
- quiet room, close the window, no sirens or traffic noise, no computer fan, no electric appliances
- turn off phones and computers
- no echo (furnished room, a living-room with sofas and carpets is better than a kitchen with solid furniture)
Position of the reader
- print the text on one-side sheet of paper
- place this sheet to read on the table (paper noises will be heard if you hold it)
- place the microphone between 20cm and 40cm in front of your mouth
- place your chair so it's comfortable to you
- spit your chewing-gum :-)
Materiel
- get a real recorder
- check the batteries before use
- set your recorder to maximum quality (bitrate 192 kbps at least, or sampling frequency 22050Hz at least)
- if possible, turn off the Automatic Gain Control
- record in mono (stereo is useless, you have just one mouth)
- adjust the recording level. the higher the better but without signal overload (clipping). make a complete try and check during the reading.
Reading
- don't read too fast
- breathe
- follow the instructions : neutral/involved reading
